Kagan Nomination Leaves Longing on the Left (nobody knows what "liberal" means)
Why do the conservatives always get the conservatives, but we don’t get to get the liberals?” Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa, asked the Web site Politico recently, voicing the frustration of the left when Ms. Kagan was considered the front-runner but was not yet Mr. Obama’s selection. “What the hell is that all about?
The reason why, Mr. Harkin, is that liberals are not principled in their policies. When ends justify the means all the time, the means could be anything and oftentimes liberals can't agree on the best "means" for the end. True conservatives, as an example, think people deserve to keep the money they earn and spend it on what they want. Sometimes they won't spend it and it will hurt the economy, and other times they'll spend it on something what we wish they wouldn't, but conservatives all agree that the means in this case that we can't ethically take what belongs to someone else for the benefit of others.
You have a definition problem. You always will because you don't believe in absolutes. It's just a best guess all the time. It's whatever slot machine "speaks to you" at the time the decision is made.
