Step up for D.C. vouchers #tcot
PARENTS LOVE IT. Students benefit from it. But neither the White House nor most Democrats in Congress had the backbone to support a unique program that provides vouchers to low-income D.C. families in search of better educational opportunities. Now the question is whether D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) -- who has made education his priority -- has the guts his party leaders lack and will seek to save this worthy program.
The Democrats like to hammer Republicans for their ties to "special interests" (read: business) and the influence on policy. The Democrats have their own share of special interests that truly hurt Americans' most vulnerable group -- children. The teachers' union is one that, until the Democrats get out of bed with, will ever prevent kids from getting the best education they could possibly get. The Democrats *should* be a pro-life party (at least according to their claims) and they *should* be for enabling all Americans a right to choose the best schools possible. They aren't. They obviously feel they can't afford to lose the votes of the union and the teachers, and it comes at great cost for all of our children and all of our taxpayers who continue to pay more and more for worse and worse education.
