Yuck! >> MLB talks switching National League team to American League

According to a highly ranked executive, one consideration that has been raised in ownership committee meetings is eliminating the divisions altogether, so that 15 AL and 15 NL teams would vie for five playoff spots within each league. Currently, Major League Baseball has six divisions.

If they do this, they might as well just contract down to 8 teams in each league and cut out all of the teams that have no hope. Division play at least guarantees some sort of regional playoff representation across the country. This will just be "which 5 big market teams will it be this year?"
